The final of the Mahunga Points Cup was held on Saturday. The points cup is played in a similar fashion to the Fed X Cup with players accruing points throughout the year and then the top 20 play off in the final. The final was a hotly contested affair with and the result was one of the closest in the last few years with Phil Granich coming out on top with a nett 67 followed by Kevin May, and Brett Sargent on nett 68.
In the club competition on Saturday was a Medal round and in group 1 first was Phil Granich with a nett 67, followed by Brett Sargent & Jeremy Harp on nett 68. In group 2 Kevin May found some form with a nett 68, closely followed by Michelle Coley on nett 69 and Neville Biel on nett 70. Holes on two were scored by Ray Cocks, Phil Granich and Michelle Coley. Nearest to the pins went to Brett Sargent, Damian Kauika, Michelle Coley, and Phil Granich who scored two of them.
On Tuesday the vets played a Bisque Par and some big scores posted. In the men's division Ross Ireland led the way on 11 up from Roger Stenton and Eddie Tuuta on 10 up. In the ladies division Maria Lauvi was an easy winner on 9 up followed by Nan McNae on 6 up and Janet Shaw on 3 up. For the 9 holers Daphne Jordan won on countback from Gordon Wilton on 3 up, closely followed by Irene Phelps on 2 up. Holes in two were scored by Terry Talcon and Ross Ireland, and the nearest the pins went to Terry Talcon for the men and Maria Lauvi for the ladies.
This weekend Saturdays club competition is a Stableford round and on Sunday there is a Par round. Don't forget the Mahunga Christmas Cheer is being held on Saturday 10th December. The competition is Stableford and there will be a card draw with a shotgun start at 11.30am. Entry fee is $30 including twos so get your entries into the club now.
