The golf club held its annual 54 hole Copthorne Solway Park Teamplay tournament on Saturday and
Sunday.
The first round was the fourball competition. In the gross division it was the pairing of Ryan and David
Fahey who led the way with a score of 63, with Brett Sargent and Anita Karaitiana in second place with a
65, followed by Shaun Arnst and Brendan Malcolm on 67, with a group of Mark and Godfrey Bowden,
Ivan and Byron Karaitiana, Brent Daniel and Thomas Rimene and Glen signal and Rick Todd with scores
of 70.
In the net division it was tight at the top with Ryan and David Fahey, Brett Sargent and Anita Karaitiana
and Ray and Cheycoda Cocks all finishing with nett scores of 59, while Brent Daniel and Thomas Rimene,
Lance and Graham Duckett and Mark Logan and James Jackson on 60 nett’s.
The second round was the two person Ambrose. In the gross division it was Ivan and Byron Karaitiana
who produced the best score of 61 followed by Ryan and David Fahey on 64, Shaun Arnst and Brendon
Malcolm on 65, Tony and John Sharp and Stu Northe and Andre Rootman on 66, and Graeme Dick and
Steve Walton and Bryan Pengelly and Tony Rowntree on 67.
In the net division it was Ivan and Byron Karaitiana who had the best score of 58 nett, followed by Stu
Northe and Andre Rootman and Ray and Cheycoda Cocks on 60½, then Lance and Graham Duckett on
60 ¾, followed by Ryan and David Fahey on 61½, then Graeme Dick and Steve Walton on 62 nett.
The third round was the foursomes round, which normally sorts out the final results. In the gross
division it was Ivan and Byron Karaitiana who led the way with a 70 gross, with Ryan and David Fahey
and Brett Sargent and Anita Karaitiana finishing on 77’s, with Bryan Pengelly and Tony Rowntree on 78
and then Shaun Arnst and Brendan and Malcolm on 79.
In the nett scores Ivan and Byron Karaitiana had a 64 nett followed by Ian grant and Terry Fleet on 67,
with Darryl Coley and Greg Granich and Lockie and Roselee Thurston finishing on 68½ , then Brent
Daniel and Thomas Rimene on 69½, and then Ray and Cheycoda Cocks on 70 nett.
The results after the three rounds saw the top gross position being taken out by Ivan and Byron
Karaitiana with a total of 201, with the runners up being Ryan and David Fahey on 204, with Brett
Sargent and Anita Karaitiana and Shaun Arnst and Brendan Malcolm filling the next two places on scores
of 211, with Bryan Pengelly and Tony Rowntree taking fourth place on two one seven and then Mark
and Godfrey Bowden and on 219.
In the net division it was the pairing of Ray and Cheycoda Cocks who came out on top with a score of
189½, with Lance and Graham Duckett the runners up on 191¼, followed by Brent Daniel and Thomas
Rimene on 192 then Ian Grant and Terry Fleet ¼, then Ian grant and Terry Fleet on 195, with Mark Logan
and James Jackson taking fifth place on 195 ¾, and then Darryl Coley and Greg Granich on 196¾.
On Tuesday the veteran’s competition was cancelled for the day due to the funeral for Syd Whittington,
who was a life member of the club. He will be remembered for his many years of service on the match
committee as the convener of that committee, and also for the organisations of the twilight
competition’s for many years.
This coming Saturday sees the first rounds of the Wellington club competition being played. The
divisions for this year’s competition have been changed, the Mahunga top team now being played in
division A2. This team will be playing at home against the Kapiti team. TheMahunga second team will be
playing in the division B2 competition, with their first match being played against the Shandon golf club
at Shandon.
For those not playing in the interclub matches the club competition on Saturday will be a stableford
round, which is also the third round of the summer cup
