It was a big weekend at Mahunga with the second round of matches in the Club Championships and a large visiting group from Taihape. The Club competition was a medal round and the results overall were very close. In group 1 Roy Brider was first with nett 67, with Wayne Evans 2nd with net 68 and Isaac Walker was 3rd with net 70. Ivan Karaitiana was 4th on count back from Jeremy Harp. In group 2 Geoff Ewington was first with nett 70, from Terry Adamson 2nd with nett 71and Michelle Coley was 3rd on countback from Bobby Kahui with nett 73. Kevin Gibbs was 5th with nett 74. Holes in two were scored by Ray Cocks, Jeremy Harp and Ivan Karaitiana. The nearest the pins went to Ivan Karaitiana, Dave Giddens, Jeremy Harp who got 3 of them, Bobby Kahui and Byron Karaitiana.
On Sunday the competition was also a medal round and the weather was a lot better than expected and it also saw the Tui Challenge between the Horseshoe Club and Wairarapa Services Club which the Horseshoe Club won by a slender margin. An enjoyable day was had by all. In the Club competition in group 1 first was Zeb Livingston with nett 70 with our great supporter Dave Giddens of Comfort Socks, 2nd with nett 71 and Lance Duckett 3rd with nett 72. In group 2 Graham Duckett was first on count back from Maurice O’Reilly with nett 71, and Peter Kenny was 3rd with nett 72. Holes in two were scored by Darryl Coley, Lance Duckett and Dave Giddens.
This weekend the Club competition is a stableford round on both Saturday and Sunday.
